Xiaomi's new foldable phone uses its own custom chip instead of buying from Qualcomm or MediaTek

At IFA 2026, Xiaomi confirmed its Fold 18 Pro foldable phone runs on a chip it designed itself — the XRING 03, which handles processing, graphics, and AI tasks — rather than buying chips from Qualcomm or MediaTek. A major phone maker using its own chip in a flagship device is rare. Full specs arrive September 7 at the China launch.
