BMW's New Color-Changing Paint: From Demo to Real Cars

BMW is putting color-changing paint on its iX3 SUV for the first time. The coating uses technology similar to electronic displays—it shifts color when powered, but uses almost no energy once it settles on a shade. The company first showed it in 2022 but needed years to make it work on curved car surfaces without cracking or fading in sunlight.
