Welfare staff fell behind on new rules and wrongly stopped some benefit payments

The Ministry of Social Development says it wrongly stopped some people's benefit payments because staff could not keep up with new paperwork rules in time, even though people had done what was asked. Manager Shannon Soughtton said some forms expired before staff finished checking them. All payments have restarted and been back-paid. MSD could not say how many people were affected.
