Montreal council to vote on cutting ties with Israel

Montreal's city council will debate a motion on Aug. 24, 2026, to cut official ties with Israel and condemn what it calls apartheid and genocide in Palestine. Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada says cities have little power over foreign affairs — that falls to the federal government in Ottawa.
