
Iran Threatens to Block All Gulf Oil Exits
Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei said August 22 that the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow waterway that Gulf countries use to ship out oil — will stay closed until neighboring states open other export routes. Then on August 23 he warned that if those neighbors join US economic pressure against Iran, he would block those new routes too. The result: no way out for Gulf oil either way.
