Nielsen's wrist-worn devices will count TV viewers in shared homes starting August 31

Starting August 31, Nielsen will use data from wrist-worn devices that listen for TV audio to count who is watching — no check-in required. The devices, used nationally since 2016, fix a known gap: when several people watch together in one home, not everyone gets counted. The upgrade moves a February test into official ratings ahead of the fall TV season.
