
Scottish Greens Want Grouse Shooting Stopped Over Wildfire Risk
On 12 August 2026, the Scottish Green Party called for a ban on the annual grouse shooting day known as the Glorious Twelfth. They say landowners drain soggy, peat-rich ground and burn plants to prepare for shooting, which helped wildfires spread during Europe's worst recorded heatwave in June 2026. The UK government says it will not ban grouse shooting.
