Burnham to Announce MP Security Review After Widdecombe Murder; Survey Shows Half of Parliamentary Staff in Clinical Distress
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is planning to announce a review of MPs' security after former minister and Reform UK spokesperson Ann Widdecombe was murdered in July 2026. Joshua Kerry, 28, has been charged. A survey of over 500 parliamentary staffers published July 24 found one in two experiencing clinical psychological distress and 78% had received threatening communication — both record highs since the survey began in 2021.
