NHTSA Proposes Optional Cyan Marker Lamps for Automated Driving Systems

NHTSA has proposed an optional cyan marker lamp for vehicles under automated driving systems (ADS). Manufacturers that fit it would meet federal standards for color, brightness and location, so the signal reads the same on any compliant vehicle.

In my view, the lamp's value depends on adoption, since an optional signal helps only where it appears.
