NHTSA Proposes Optional Cyan Marker Lamps for ADS Vehicles

NHTSA has proposed an optional cyan marker lamp for vehicles operating under automated driving systems (ADS). Manufacturers that fit it would meet federal standards for color, brightness and location, so the signal looks identical on any compliant vehicle.

In my view, the lamp's value depends on adoption, since an optional signal helps only where it appears.
