EA Closes BioWare, Cuts About 400 Jobs

Electronic Arts announced on October 21, 2026 that it is closing BioWare, the Edmonton studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and cutting about 400 jobs, roughly 3% of its workforce, per Variety. EA has also cancelled the early-stage next Mass Effect project. The company went private after a $55 billion takeover and carries about $20 billion of debt.
