Greens promise councils power to set bed levy

The Green Party would give councils the power to set a bed levy on overnight stays if elected, co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick said. She said councils want the tool to fund tourism infrastructure and ease pressure on ratepayers, calling it "common sense": "When more people stay, councils have more money for the services those visitors use."
