Pakaraka School becomes first state school to convert to charter

Pakaraka School in Northland has become the first state school to convert to a charter school, Associate Education Minister David Seymour announced. The school is now run by the Society of Holistic Learners, a charitable trust led by Pakaraka School parents, RNZ reported on 12 October 2026.
