Jones announces indefinite intertidal harvest ban for Auckland, Coromandel
Fisheries Minister Shane Jones has announced an indefinite ban on taking a large range of marine invertebrates from intertidal areas on Auckland's east and west coasts, Waiheke Island and Coromandel. He said it followed a review prompted by community tensions over rockpool harvesting. The minister said the restrictions stay in place until revoked.
