Washington voters to decide in November on repealing 9.9% millionaire tax

Washington voters will decide in November whether to repeal a 9.9% tax on earnings above $1 million signed into law in March. The tax takes effect Jan. 1, 2028, with first payments due April 2029. Repeal backers claim it would eventually tax more than millionaires; Gov. Bob Ferguson said he would veto any expansion to lower-earning households.
