Downtown Los Angeles hits 104F, setting longest October heat streak on record

Downtown Los Angeles reached 104F on Oct. 5, breaking the Oct. 5 record of 101F set in 1953. It was the fourth consecutive October day at or above 100F, the longest streak on record. The National Weather Service attributed the spell to a ridge of high pressure trapping hot air, pushing temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above normal for autumn.
