LA Hits 104 Degrees in Unusually Long October Hot Spell

Downtown Los Angeles hit 104 degrees on Oct. 5, beating the Oct. 5 record of 101 from 1953. It was the fourth straight October day at 100 or more, the longest run on record. Weather officials say heat is trapped under high pressure, like a lid, keeping it 15 to 20 degrees hotter than normal for fall.
