EU proposes 15-year probation for future member states

EU enlargement commissioner Marta Kos has proposed a 15-year probation period for any future EU member state. She outlined the safeguard plan in interviews with the Guardian and other European papers on 6 October 2026. The measure would still require agreement by existing EU member states.
