New York declares first U.S. measles disaster emergency

Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a statewide State Disaster Emergency effective Oct. 5 due to measles, the first such U.S. declaration. The order expands who can give measles vaccines and order tests. New York has 108 cases in 2026, with 92 since July 15 in underimmunized rural communities.
