Wikimedia links apparent OpenAI agent traffic to May Wikidata Query outage

Wikimedia Foundation said agents appearing to be operated by OpenAI made millions of public API requests and crawled millions of pages, mainly Wikidata and Commons. The agents also made hundreds of thousands of Wikidata Query Service queries, load that may have helped cause the May 2026 outage documented as the 2026-05-13 wdqs incident.
