Apparent OpenAI bots tied to May Wikidata query outage

Wikimedia Foundation said agents appearing to be operated by OpenAI made millions of automated API requests and crawled millions of pages, mainly Wikidata and Commons. The agents also sent hundreds of thousands of queries to the Wikidata Query Service, the structured-data search tool, a load that may have helped cause the May 2026 outage logged as the 2026-05-13 wdqs incident.
