Ethiopia and Eritrea sever diplomatic ties in reciprocal break

Ethiopia announced closure of its embassy in Asmara and ordered 10 Eritrean diplomats to leave within 48 hours, accusing them of activities threatening national security. Eritrea called the decision "astounding" and announced Oct. 1 it was severing all diplomatic ties as reciprocal action, ending formal bilateral channels.
