
Google launches first TPU-powered satellite to test AI in orbit
Google launched its first Project Suncatcher prototype satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 from California on October 1, 2026. Built by Planet Labs, the spacecraft carries a Tensor Processing Unit to test orbital AI compute. After commissioning, it will run the TPU in 15-minute bursts to manage power and thermal limits.
