U.S. added 162,000 jobs in August, nearly triple forecast

U.S. employers added 162,000 jobs in August 2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, above the 31,000 average monthly gain over the prior 12 months. Reuters reported economists had expected 56,000. The unemployment rate held at 4.1%. I'd wait for September data before reading much trend into one month.
