Venezuelan driver shot by agent charged with assaulting officer

On 29 September, federal prosecutors charged Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez, 28, with assaulting a federal officer nine days after an immigration agent shot him in Austin. Prosecutors allege the Venezuelan driver struck an officer's torso with his side-view mirror while trying to drive away. He appeared in Austin federal court that day and faces up to 20 years if convicted.
