Huge bogong moth swarms surprise coastal New South Wales

Swarms of bogong moths surprised coastal New South Wales residents in late September 2026. Hundreds of sightings clustered in Sydney, Illawarra and the Central Coast were posted to Bogong Watch. The moths migrate up to 1,000 km each spring to cool caves in the Australian Alps. Moth Tracker logged more sightings in September 2026 than in all of last year.
