Big Surprise: Lots of Night Moths Near Sydney

Coastal New South Wales saw surprise swarms of bogong moths, night-flying insects, in late September 2026. Hundreds of sightings clustered in Sydney, Illawarra and the Central Coast were posted to Bogong Watch. Like travelers, they fly up to 1,000 km each spring to cool caves in the Australian Alps. Moth Tracker logged more September sightings than in all last year.
