Labour promises 10% student loan write-off for eligible graduates

Labour leader Chris Hipkins promised at the party’s South Auckland campaign launch on 27 September to write off 10% of eligible student loan balances, RNZ reported. He said it would cover current and future New Zealand-based graduates for tax purposes who did not benefit from fees-free and still owe money, with balances of $2,000 or less cleared entirely.
