Archaeologists find 20-metre Lutetia rampart under Paris Hôtel-Dieu

Archaeologists uncovered a stone-and-wood wall preserved over about twenty metres beneath the Hôtel-Dieu on Paris's Île de la Cité in summer 2026. The structure is believed to be a fragment of the ramparts of Lutetia, the ancient name for Paris, built by the Gallic Parisii. The City of Paris says it could advance understanding of Lutetia.
