Police gave hacked woman safety leaflet and closed case

A woman identified as Jane had her Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat accounts hacked, with images taken from private messages. Police gave her an internet safety leaflet and closed the case. After she appointed law firm Leigh Day, Ofcom opened a formal investigation into the platforms and police reopened the criminal investigation, The Guardian reported on 22 September 2026.
