Detectorist finds Germany's largest Hadrian-era Roman coin hoard

Private metal-detectorist Oliver Riedl found 934 Roman silver denarii in a field in Wesseling, south of Cologne, in autumn 2025. Experts excavated the hoard after prompt notification. It is Germany's largest coin treasure from Emperor Hadrian's time, assessed as probably buried deliberately in the second quarter of the second century AD.
