China's Forex Reserves Hit US$3.44 Trillion, Up US$153 Billion in 15 Months

China's foreign exchange reserves reached US$3,438.3 billion at end-August 2026, SAFE reported September 7 — up US$19.5 billion from July and roughly US$153 billion since May 2025. SAFE attributes the gains to currency translation and asset-price changes, not active intervention. The US$3.4 trillion-plus cushion gives the PBoC latitude to ease policy without balance-of-payments strain.
