AfD Wins 45% in Saxony-Anhalt, Testing Germany's Anti-Coalition "Firewall"

The AfD took 45.3% of second votes in Saxony-Anhalt's 6 September Landtag election — the largest share for any party in the state's post-1990 history. The result makes the AfD the dominant force in coalition talks. Germany's "firewall" norm, whereby established parties refuse to govern with the AfD, is a political convention, not a legal one.
