Most secondary teachers want NCEA fixed, not scrapped — despite government replacement plan
An NZCER survey of 830 secondary teachers across 126 schools found 71% want NCEA improved rather than replaced, with 45% strongly agreeing. Principals agreed at 70%. The finding clashes with the coalition government's plan to replace NCEA with a new qualifications pathway from 2028. The Ministry has not yet published consultation outcomes.
