Labour pledges 15% of $50b contracts to small businesses

Labour would direct 15 percent of about $50 billion in annual government contract spending to small businesses and start-ups, finance spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said on 9 August 2026. Larger contracts would be broken into smaller jobs to ease bidding. The target would sit alongside the existing Māori procurement target.
