Labour promises more government work for small businesses

Labour says that if elected, it would steer 15 percent of about $50 billion a year in government contract spending to small businesses and start-ups. Finance spokesperson Barbara Edmonds announced the plan on 9 August 2026. Larger contracts would be split into smaller jobs so more firms can apply. The target would sit alongside the existing Māori procurement target.
