Labour pledges 15% of $50b government contracts for small businesses

Labour says it would, if elected, direct 15 percent of roughly $50 billion in annual government contract spending to small businesses and start-ups. Finance spokesperson Barbara Edmonds announced the target on 9 August 2026. Labour would also break up larger contracts into smaller jobs to make them easier to bid for. The target would sit alongside the existing Māori procurement target.
