Drama teachers warn new school subjects cut a pipeline to the creative sector

Whakaari Aotearoa says the government's nine new industry-led secondary subjects, announced 5 August, leave out backstage skills like lighting, sound and set design. President Annette Thomson said this cuts a training pathway into film, TV and live performance sectors facing skill shortages, and undermines the government's target of growing the creative sector to $22 billion a year by 2030.
