Drama teachers say new school subjects leave out backstage skills
Whakaari Aotearoa, the drama teachers' group, says the government's nine new secondary school subjects, announced 5 August, leave out backstage roles like lighting, sound and set design. President Annette Thomson said this removes a training route into film, TV and live performance, which need more workers, and threatens the government's goal of growing the creative sector to $22 billion a year by 2030.
