Drama teachers say new school subjects cut a pipeline to the government's $22 billion creative sector target

Whakaari Aotearoa says the government's nine new industry-led secondary school subjects, announced 5 August, omit backstage skills like lighting, sound and set design. President Annette Thomson said this severs a training pathway into film, TV and live performance sectors with critical skill shortages, and endangers the government's target of growing the creative sector to $22 billion a year by 2030.
