Hidden Self-Portrait Discovered in Oslo Still Life Reattributed to Clara Peeters

A 17th-century Oslo still life, reattributed to Flemish painter Clara Peeters after woodworm destroyed its signature, may contain a miniature self-portrait concealed in painted grapes — a device Peeters favored. Curator Cynthia Osiecki secured the reattribution through panel-supplier matches and compositional parallels. The work enters the exhibition "Woman Painter" on 8 October 2026.
