Hidden Self-Portrait Found on Grapes of Reattributed Clara Peeters Still Life in Oslo

A 17th-century still life reattributed to Flemish painter Clara Peeters may contain a miniature self-portrait embedded in its painted grapes — a practice Peeters was known for. The Oslo panel's actual signature was destroyed by woodworm. Curator Cynthia Osiecki built the reattribution on panel-supplier matches and compositional parallels. The painting enters the exhibition "Woman Painter" on 8 October 2026.
