Hidden Self-Portrait Found in Old Painting Linked to Clara Peeters

A 400-year-old painting of fruit and objects in Oslo, now linked to Flemish artist Clara Peeters, may hide a tiny self-portrait within its painted grapes — a trick she was known for. Woodworms ate the original signature. Curator Cynthia Osiecki matched the wood and style to Peeters' other works. The painting joins the "Woman Painter" exhibition on 8 October 2026.
