Baby Survives Emergency Caesarean After Mother's Fatal Nine-Storey Fall

Emma Atkinson, 38 and seven months pregnant, died after falling from a ninth-storey window in Leeds on 22 October 2024. Roughly 30 minutes later, doctors at Leeds General Infirmary delivered her baby by emergency caesarean — a surgical procedure to remove the infant through the abdomen. The girl suffered a punctured lung and fractured tibia, needed weeks of intensive care, and has recovered. She is now 21 months old, raised by family.
