Baby Born by Surgery After Mother's Deadly Fall Survives

Emma Atkinson, 38 and seven months pregnant, died after falling from a ninth-floor window in Leeds on 22 October 2024. About 30 minutes later, doctors at Leeds General Infirmary delivered her baby through emergency surgery on the abdomen, called a caesarean. The girl suffered a punctured lung and a broken leg bone, needed weeks of intensive care, and has recovered. She is now 21 months old, raised by family.
