State Department Plans to Close Five Foreign Missions, Citing Costs

The State Department told Congress it will close five missions — in Grenada, Japan, Indonesia, Cameroon, and Canada — citing cost. Eight more embassy closures across Africa and Europe are proposed. The move follows Secretary Rubio's dismissal of over 1,300 employees last year. More than half of 195 ambassadorial posts remain unfilled.
