US State Department Notifies Congress of Plans to Close Five Foreign Missions

The State Department has notified Congress of plans to close five missions — St George's (Grenada), Nagoya (Japan), Medan (Indonesia), Douala (Cameroon), and Winnipeg (Canada) — citing cost grounds. Eight additional embassy closures across Africa and Europe are also proposed. The drawdown follows Secretary Rubio's dismissal of over 1,300 employees last year. More than half of 195 ambassadorial posts remain unfilled.
