First CRISPR-Edited Dogs Lack Major Allergen Protein

Scientists used CRISPR-Cas9 — a precision gene-editing tool — to produce two beagles lacking Can f 1, the primary dog allergen. No Can f 1 appeared in saliva or fur, and an allergic researcher had no skin-prick reaction. The study, published August 5, 2026, marks the first such success in dogs.
