Bowen to override Queensland and NT on AI datacentre energy rules

Energy Minister Chris Bowen will legislate to override Queensland and the NT, forcing new AI datacentres onto renewables and banning gas-only facilities. Both refused to sign the national framework. The AEMC — the body that sets energy market rules — warned that without changes, datacentre costs would land partly on households rather than big tech.
