Federal government pushes to make AI datacentres run on clean energy

Energy Minister Chris Bowen will use federal law to override Queensland and the Northern Territory, requiring new AI datacentres — the giant warehouses that power artificial intelligence — to run on renewable energy, not just gas. Both refused to sign the national plan. Regulators warned that otherwise, everyday households could end up paying for big tech's costs.
